Though he is still muzzled, he's not completely defenseless. He picked up a sizable piece of wood to use as a staff. His fighting skills haven't lessened even if his magic has. He hadn't had much call to use it but he keeps it close even while sleeping.

He doesn't sleep very deeply and jerks awake at certain sounds. Luckily, Kratos doesn't make any of those sounds. The local wildlife isn't as thoughtful. A loud bird call disturbs his rest this time and he twitches back awake. His make shift staff held ready before he even tries to stand. Without thinking he tries to demand 'who's there' but it comes out more like 'mm mrmm.'
